Federici’s Family Italian Restaurant
- Town: Freehold
- Where: 14 East Main Street
- Hours: Open at 11:30 a.m. every day but Tuesday, when it is closed
Frank and Ester Federici bought the building on East Main Street in 1921, and the family is celebrating 105 years in business in 2026. Their sons Dante and Frank “Spat” joined in 1946, and that is when the family says its award-winning thin crust pizza was perfected.
The fourth generation runs it today, and Mom’s cheese lasagna recipe is still on the menu. Reservations are accepted for parties of seven or more.
Pete and Elda’s Bar and Carmen’s Pizzeria
- Town: Neptune City
- Where: 96 Woodland Avenue
- Hours: Monday to Thursday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.
Pete and Elda’s has served its famous thin crust pizza for more than 50 years, and it is a Jersey Shore rite of passage.

- Hours: Tuesday to Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 9 p.m.; closed Monday
Vic’s has served Italian food in Bradley Beach for more than four generations. It is an old school family dining room, and a pizza and a plate of pasta here is a Bradley Beach tradition.
Talula’s
- Town: Asbury Park
- Where: 550 Cookman Avenue, Suite 108
- Hours: Monday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Talula’s builds everything on sourdough, from its round pies to sourdough Detroit-style squares. It also sells New York style and Grandma slices, which makes it an easy lunch stop on Cookman Avenue.
Porta
- Town: Asbury Park
- Where: 911 Kingsley Street
Porta fires its pizza in a brick oven, and on weekends the room doubles as a nightlife spot. On Fridays the kitchen serves late night pizza until 1 a.m.
Porta also hosts Fresh Markets holiday pop-ups on Sundays, November 29, December 13 and December 20, 2026, from noon to 4 p.m. Call 732-776-7661 to confirm hours.
Make a Night of It
Federici’s is on East Main Street in downtown Freehold, so it pairs well with a walk through the county seat. Talula’s and Porta are both in Asbury Park, close enough to combine with the Asbury Park Holiday Bazaar on December weekends. Pete and Elda’s and Vic’s are a short drive apart in Neptune City and Bradley Beach.
Hours change around the holidays, so call ahead before you go, especially on Thanksgiving weekend and Christmas week.
